Don't go here unless you like brown water
Pictures of the beach on the web site are very misleading. It is not the blue Dominican beach you see in the photo. It is deceptive advertising. This is their explanation. "We would like to clarify that our beach in the La Romana complex has a confluence of the Chavón River, which causes the water to look cloudy especially in times of flooding of the river. We regret that you believe that we have placed misleading advertising regarding the beach, we wish to inform that during your stay there were some temperature changes or some weather phenomena (rains), which may affect the color of the water." After the first day, I tried to change to another of their 8 resorts in the DR but since I booked via Expedia, I had to go through them. Expedia stepped up but Bahia Principe never got back to them in a timely manner. Expedia gave me generous compensation for my trouble. And BTW, the food was a 3 out of 10 except the limited access Specialty dining. The Italian restaurant was great.

Almost made 5 stars
Recently returned from Bahia Principe Grand La Romana in the DR. This is an excellent samller resort for the brand. No shuttles needed on site as everything is within a short walk. Well for me anyways. Very clean and well maintained for an older facility. WIFI was great. Just spotty on the beach. If your into blue water, might be disappointed as it was sandy during our stay. Beach however was imaculately maintained. The only real issue i or we had was with the italian a la carte restaurant. Although the food was fantastic, the service was exctremely poor and exceptionally slow. ewe arte there twice, first time, weloming cocktail was never delivered and we had to ask for bread. the second time was worse, with no bread available at all, poor clearing of tables, and the service was so slow that we left while still waiting for our desert and coffee. the other two restaurants were great, particularly the Gourmet restaurant. food was delicious. And as for the main buffet, a vary varied selection every night. If not for the water in the sea and the italian restaurant, i would have given a higher rating.

Very Disappointing Guest Service
My recent stay from April 9–13, 2025, was a mix of positives and several disappointments. Arrival & Check-In: The airport pickup was smooth and efficient, and the driver was courteous and professional. Upon arrival around 3:00 p.m., we were greeted by Delbin at the front desk. He was friendly and quickly processed our check-in, as I had completed it online. I was assigned to room 1603 and my friends to 1604. Room Issues: Unfortunately, my room had several issues from the start: the AC did not work, the safe was locked open, the fridge was not functioning, the bed was extremely hard, and one of the lamps had a faulty bulb. After giving the AC some time to cool while we went to lunch, I returned to find no improvement. I reported everything to Delbin, who took note of the issues and assured me that they would be resolved promptly. However, the safe could only be addressed while I was in the room. Despite waiting, no fixes were made, and eventually I had to return to the front desk to request a room change. At this point, Delbin seemed hesitant, though earlier he had mentioned that the hotel wasn’t busy. It was disappointing that a room change wasn’t proactively offered considering the number of issues I reported. I was eventually moved to room 1605, where the fridge also didn’t work. A technician removed it, revealing a moldy space underneath, which I photographed and showed to housekeeping. A replacement fridge was placed directly into the unclean area. By the time this was resolved, it was 6:30 p.m. Guest Service Highlights & Areas for Improvement: I want to highlight Linda for her excellent follow-up—she truly stood out in terms of care and service. In the buffet, the food was excellent. Maria and Lala were wonderful, especially when they noticed my leg had been stained by paint from one of the chairs. Kerly Almonte was also extremely friendly and attentive—he deserves special recognition for his warm hospitality. However, Josefa, who greeted guests at the buffet, consistently lacked enthusiasm and did not offer a warm welcome. A simple greeting or smile would have made a difference. Pool Bar & Activities: Luis at the pool bar was a standout—very engaging, fun, and truly contributed to making our poolside experience enjoyable. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Mairely and Mr. Vazquez, who were consistently disengaged and unapproachable. The activities team was lively and entertaining throughout our stay. However, there was one situation where a live band began setting up directly under our straw umbrella without asking. While they hadn’t started playing yet, the group made it clear they intended to stay, so we felt uncomfortable and decided to leave the area. Kiko noticed and approached me to ask what had happened. Though we were already walking away, I appreciated his concern. Later that evening, Kiko sought me out again and kindly apologized for the inconvenience—thank you, Kiko, for your professionalism and follow-through. Final Thoughts: Overall, this was far from the five-star experience I expected, especially as a loyalty program member. While I appreciated the standout service from a few staff members, the room issues and inconsistent guest service were major letdowns. I sincerely hope that Bahia Principe invests more in training staff on guest relations and responsiveness. This stay left me extremely disappointed, and I hope to see significant improvements in the future.
