    Best Family/Couple Resort

This resort was amazing! We had access to 4 out of the 6 hotels on the property. The beach/pools/hotels were always incredibly clean, friendly staff, amazing food and a fabulous view. There's so much for everyone to do, it's hard to get it all in!

    Sunshine!

Overall this was a great stay. I will echo other reviews that the beach chair game was exhausting. Luckily my husband was an early riser and secured chairs. this worked all but one day. We only went in the pool once, but it is January so the water felt cold. The rooms and hotel itself was immaculate. I was constantly impressed by how clean everything was and that was very important to me. Food was only so-so. It felt like a lot of ingredients with no substance. I struggled to feel full and I was irritated with the lack of actual snack items between meals. Even the chips you bought lacked variety. One day there was a cooked turkey and I was thrilled. Drinks were definitely watered down if not absolutely water. Never felt any alcohol effects whatsoever and every drink tasted the same. ( except for wine, which isn't able to be watered down) Travel was stressful and I didn't appreciate the attempts to upgrade me without my request. When we arrived they could only finding of our room reservations since they had upgraded us to a different area without our consent. They put us in a completely different building than our kids which I accepted for about 2 hours before politely requesting a closer room, which they gave. We felt very comfortable and well cared for. Some staff seemed a little resentful and were hit or miss on being friendly but maybe our expectations were too high.

    Highly recommended

We booked Barceló Maya Caribe but were checked into Barceló Maya Beach next door after our flight was delayed 6 hours. This was fortunate, because they are nearly identical except our building (Tulum) is close to a small adults-only pool and bar—El Cielito—which was delightful. The buffet restaurants and al a cartes were outstanding, with plenty of delicious and healthy offerings beautifully presented. The beds were very comfortable, and the A/C was quiet. Sometimes noise from the hallway woke us briefly, but this reflected more on our rowdy neighbors than on the hotel. Internet was excellent—I even usually had reception on the beach. There was plenty of shade from the palm trees on the beach to the pergolas by the pools , and there would be more than enough loungers if the chair hogs wouldn’t be so selfish. (Please let someone else use it if you’ll be gone for an hour or more). We moved a shirt and sunglasses from a lounger (no one around knew anything about them) and enjoyed it for hours on one occasion. We hope to return on a future vacation.
