    Good Hotel/Beach is Amazing

I have stayed here in the past-I believe I stayed in one of the owner condos that time-which were a lot nicer than their offered resort rooms-nonetheless, here goes my review of a recent stay. I stayed with my family in the 1 bedroom villas, near the golf course. We had 2 adjoining rooms. The rooms were very spacious, each had 2 baths and 2 showers and had a good sized kitchen, dining area and open space for a pullout couch. Very spacious, so I would say you do get a lot for your stay here in terms of space. The beds were definitely comfortable, the pullout not so much. The rooms are definitely in need of a major sprucing up, but we did look past a lot of things because we were on the beach, in the tropics and on vacation. I had an issue with my room, with mold and mildew. From the moment you walked in to the room you get a strong mildewy smell. There were some moldy spots as well. The adjoining room had none of these issues. For some reason, my room was extremely damp. I brought this up to the front desk and they were willing to immediately accommodate, but I had adjoining rooms so it was tough to do on a busy week. For the time being, they put a dehumidifier in the room, which did help, but had to be emptied every 3-4 hours. Later on in the week, they did offer 2 adjoining rooms close by, but by that time we had 2 days left so nobody wanted to move. I have no problem with the staff at this hotel, especially the front desk-they tried to accommodate and were always available. Getting around the resort is easily walkable. There are shuttles that run erratically and sporadically that can take you from close to your room, to the beach or other areas you may need to visit. The grounds of the hotel are neat and clean. The infinity pool area could use a good power washing, there are a ton of slippery spots. The restaurants at the hotel are decent and can always seat you. There is a small shop at the lobby as well as a coffee take out from 7am-12pm. You can visit the restaurants to take out coffee as well. There are all inclusive options here, but I would not opt for that at this hotel. There is plenty of parking should you have a car rental. Now I will tell you about the beach. A 3-5 minute walk from the hotel brings you to one of the nicest beaches on the island. Now, while this hotel is not on the beach, and you have to walk a little bit and cross a street, it is a very good location. The beach is stunning. There are palapas that are their for use, and an attendant to help you with the chairs, that are locked up. Like at every resort, there are people that get there at the crack of dawn to put towels and other items out to claim their spot, but it's not as bad as other resorts. This resort is located in the low rise hotel section and has easy access to their other resorts, as well as closer to the airport and Oranjestad. If you want to go to the high rise hotel section, its a 7-10 minute car ride. Personally I prefer the location of this hotel, as it is not as busy and closer to one of the nicest beaches in the world-Eagle Beach. You could walk there.

Great, but you might want to avoid the All Inclusive

We just returned the Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort. It's an excellent resort, but doing "the math" on the all-inclusive might save you money. The cheapest all-inclusive (Signature) is $225/person/day and allows you to dine at around 7 restaurants that are all conveniently located on or near the property. I would say that unless you drink like and fish and gold every day, you will NOT get your money out of it. The main benefit of an all-inclusive for us is the food. At $225/person/day, you're looking at $75/person/meal/day (assuming 3 meals/day). Let's assume you do not have the all-inclusive and plan to just pay out-of-pocket for your meals. A hearty breakfast at Sea Breeze will run you about $25/person. If you indulge, you probably won't be hungry at lunch. And then a first class dinner will likely run you about $75/person. So you've spent $100/person/day instead of the all-inclusive fee of $225/person/day. Where the all-inclusive might be worth it is if you golf every day because the green fees and cart are free. However, if you didn't bring your own clubs, that'll run you $50/person. Also, if you have 8-10 drinks everyday at $7-$12 each, you might breakeven on the all-inclusive. We found that other things included in the all-inclusive (shuttle, beach loungers) were included even without the all-inclusive, so that's a non-starter. Bikes and rock climbing are included, so that might also get you to breakeven. Other couples we met who were staying for a week got the all-inclusive form 3 days (which is the minimum you can get) and then paid out-of-pocket for the rest. This might also be better than getting if for entire week, or longer. Even on days when we over-indulged on food and drank at breakfast (mimosas), lunch (beer, punch), and dinner (wine, cocktails), we never got to the $225 threshold. Or worse, we just weren't hungry at dinner. You also have to keep in mind that if you book a tour (ie sunset cruise, bike tour, etc.), you won't be around the resort to dine, so that's just wasted money on the all-inclusive. We will definitely go to this resort again. We won't, however, get the all-inclusive.

    Happy we picked here

the resort was clean, well kept and landscaping was beautiful. The staff were all accommodating, helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean. The shuttle service, at times, was quite welcome in the heat. We felt safe at all times. Absolutely beautiful sunsets. There were 4 of us and we never had a problem getting a chair at the pool or the beach. My two complaints were a way too springy bed and a 15% service charge at some of the restaurants but the wait staff still expected a tip

    Wonderful experience.

There are always goods and bads everywhere you go. There are personal preferences and experiences that make the trips either good or bad. We stayed at the Divi Village and Golf. We were there for 8 days for our anniversary. We used a leftover trip insurance so our choices were limited on what we could chose for a package but we got the Mega plan all inclusive. It was a great experience with better than average food. High end liquor choices. The Mega plan is new and has some kinks to work out. For instance on the golf side of the street you had to sign for drinks and your food. You didn't get charged for it but they brought you a bill and you had to sign for it. On the other side of the street where the Divi Aruba, Divi Tamarjin and the Divi Dutch Village you didn't have to sign for anything. At the Golf side. Certain alcohols were an uncharge. At the other 3 they were not. It was confusing at 1st. After a while you just went with it. Negatives: like I said earlier the Mega plan and figuring it out. The wind blew non stop 20+ miles and hour. Everyone said without it would be miserable. I just know when you walked inside it was a relief and my ears thanked me. There were 2 bartenders at the infinity pool who need a lesson on what customer service is. I know each of their names but will not reveal them. 1 is a taller lady and the other a younger guy. With customers waiting and them knowing because they made eye contact multiple times, would talk for several minutes before helping the patrons. I brought a metal cup like I always do and they gave me grief about the cups size and rolled their eyes at me several times while making drinks. I asked them if they were not sure how to make drinks in a cup like that. I said, there are several around the pool today. I said, I make drinks in that cup all the time and have no issues. I asked if I could help them make me a drink. They didn't like that. That's enough of them. Positives. When we pulled up to Divi Golf. Erwin was there to greet us with a smile and he said, anything you need just ask him and he was serious. He is an amazing attribute to the property. Even gave us his address on the way to the airport in case we wanted to skip the plane and stay a few more days. Our 1st night eating was at Tapas. We met a young lady named Daisy who has the absolute most positive attitude and beautiful smile. Made us feel right at home. We saw her working multiple places through out our stay. She was at the lobby coffee bar, Mulligans, Tapas. Always had a smile on her face and was genuinely glad to see you and ask how your stay was going. Shuttle drivers there were multiple ones and I didn't get everyone's name but Ramone was definitely one that stood out. He whistles like a bird and plays great music and always had a smile on his face. Yaldo is a server at the Red Parrot. What an amazing server with a great attitude. I could add several great things about him but won't. Rose at Windows was an excellent server with a great attitude and well versed on the menu and gave great suggestions. Betsy at the Bunker Bar made the best Margaritas. She had a great attitude and was very fast and polite. Not sure if I am going to spell his ne right but Jorell and JP at the Pelican bar in the evenings mixed great drinks, very personable and fast. 2 Shirley's at the Dutch swim up bar made great drinks and speedy as well. John at the activities desk area treated us great and gave us some great advice and made our adventures memorable. Rooms were cleaned everyday and beds turned down. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The 9 hole Golf course was well maintained but just like every golf course I have played in the Caribbean there are dead spots on the Tees, Fairways and Greens. Lower you expectations and have fun. The concierge service was easy to make dinner reservations and we booked our 1 activity through them and it was a good time. All and all it was a great time. The Island was the cleanest island or Caribbean country I have been in. The people were extremely friendly and never felt like we were not safe. We rode the bus service for $3 wherever you wanted to go. It was a great experience and cheaper than cabs even though the cabs were not pricey.

    So bad we left early

Stayed at Divi Golf. Pool barsclose at 6:30pm. Pools close at 9pm. Rooms are old and falling apart, fan makes weird noise when off, shower is falling apart. All inclusive bracelet is horrible and not allowed to ever take off, I have eczema and needed to take it off at night, I got treated like a criminal. Front desk associates are rude and treated my wife and I horribly. One even asked my wife if she “knows how to smile”. Overall stay was so bad we actually left early. I’ve never left a vacation early before…. Extremely stingy with the towels, even room towels. 2 that’s all you get and no more.
