Not what we expected for 5 stars. More like 3
Resort is pretty, beach is beautiful. Food was mediocre, except Italian restaurant which was great. Staff is 50/50, some kind and friendly, others grumpy. Overall not accommodating. Warning to parents . . . Do not leave your children alone in the room for any amount of time. Even if you might at home. Our 12 year old stayed in sick while we went to eat. We had the Do Not Enter sign on the door. A staff member went into the room anyway while we she was alone in there. Not impressed. Yesterday we saw a 3-4 year old in a bathroom stall trying to get her swimsuit back on. A cleaner opened the stall door, saw her standing there naked, smiled, and proceeded to mop the floor while looking at her. Furious. Avoid the vendors that set up around the pool, plaza, or beach. Absolute crooks. It was a good trip overall, but wouldn't come back.

Expansive resort with beautiful beach
The resort was true to the pictures, a beautiful expansive resort. We splurged for the Platinum upgrade and experienced closer proximity to the beach, comfortable cushioned chaises under the palapas, closeness to the beach bar with drink service, access to a separate pool bar and restaurant and generally a relatively calm, quiet area. We felt very safe, very comfortable and well taken care of. There were 9 restaurants to choose from with good quality food. The beach was absolutely beautiful, if not a little rough for surf. I would recommend this resort without hesitation.

Sun, Sand, and Salmonella
DO NOT GO HERE. My best friend and I went for a small 3 day getaway. The resort itself is nice and overall we had a fun time together. It was my first all inclusive so I’m not sure how it compares to others, but it is true what they say about the quality being lower because of it. The liquor is so bad - had one sip of a margarita and had to throw it out. We stuck to wine and champagne. They had Aperol which was my saving grace. The food is also terrible (more on that later). We tried the food trucks when we got in - just get fries, I don’t want to think about what I was eating when I took a few bites of that hamburger. We went to El Gaucho (the steakhouse ala carte restaurant) the first night and then went to the buffet the rest of the trip. After my chicken and her steak arrived with a mystery bright blue sauce garnishing the plate we were pretty turned off after that. Even still, we’re not high maintenance and we were still able to have fun and chalked it up to the experience. We enjoyed karaoke, the silent disco party and the Cappuccino coffee restaurant. The rooms were also huge and clean. Everyone was super nice, except for one pushy guy at the karaoke bar who was insisting I fill out a positive TripAdvisor review in front of him. Pro tip: Standing over my shoulder does not make me keen on doing it. The real gift from this resort came to me 24 hours after returning home. I had a fever, chills, and general malaise so I went to sleep early, hoping to sleep it off. I’ll spare the details as much as possible but the next morning began 72 hours straight of diarrhea, almost like clockwork on the hour every hour. Debilitating stomach cramps that had me crying. My mom flew in to come take me to the ER after no over the counters seemed to stop symptoms. 8 hours and an eventual $2000 bill later, I was confirmed positive for salmonella AND ecoli. Whatever the unlucky version of “you should buy a lottery ticket” is I guess applies to me here. I sent a hail mary “Karen” email to this resort asking for even a penny thrown my way in financial compensation. I was met with a very well written email template explaining that I “didn’t show symptoms while at the resort” and there would’ve been “an outbreak” if I really did receive it from the resort. Needless to say they have to be aware of it and just don’t care. I’m sure I signed my life away when I checked in or something. Regardless, not shocking. I got home from Punta Cana on March 14. It’s almost May and it’s truly the gift that keeps on giving! The health dept called about a week after my diagnosis that I would need to be restricted from all food handling in my job until I’m able to provide a clean stool sample. 3 little jars of shame later and I still have the pleasure of being under said restriction! Salmonella is a pesky little guy even with a 10 day regiment of antibiotics. The recovery process is very glamorous too. I have this resort to thank for my newfound lack of dignity. Anyway if you’ve made it to the end of this, and you’re thinking, that price looks great! Looks beautiful! Coming from a flight attendant- just stay away from this place. Or probably any resort like it.
