Spacious room and top notch Executive Lounge
We had a lovely stay here! We popped into Edinburgh for a short trip to the Christmas market and loved our time in the Carlton. We picked it for its location. Note to future travelers - if you don't like steps, you are better off going out the Prince's street side of the train station and then crossing the bridge to get to the hotel, which will be after the bridge on your left. We came out the Market street side of the train station and then had to climb over 100 steps because that is how Google maps took us. Don't make our mistake. As for the hotel, yes, there was construction going on, but it did not affect us at all. We ate only in the Executive Lounge and the breakfast there was quite good and the evening snacks were just to my liking. We were there around the holidays and the lounge had mulled wine and yule log cake in the evening that was just delicious - a welcome warm evening snack on a cold day. Our room was spacious with comfortable beds and the bathroom was great too. Everything was clean and the staff were nice and even though we arrived incredibly early, my room was ready. We had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on our next trip.

Unwelcome visitor !
Had an overnight stay recently. Choose a room on the 5th floor and my goodness what a "hike" from the lift to the room. On the hotel floor plan it is not shown that while walking from the lift to our room you have to encounter going down stairs and back up stairs after a long walk through corridors. We have stayed at this hotel a number of times over the last few years and have always encountered refurbishments going on. First year we visited the exec lounge was situated on the first floor alongside the nice bar area and was a lovely separate room. On second visit the lounge was closed for renovation and was moved to the breakfast area. On our recent visit we expected a nice new lounge but found the "new" lounge is now permanently in the breakfast area which we feel is not a very social and comfortable space personally. Sitting having a nice drink I encountered a small, fast moving furry animal with a tail scurrying over my foot. I squealed and the table next to me said that was a mouse. I felt quite traumatised as I am very afraid of rodents and can't believe that a hotel of this stature has issues with vermin where food and drinks are served. Upon speaking to one of the exec lounge staff members they were aware of the rodent issue and said they were trying to eradicate the problem. This really spoiled our stay as I was quite upset and didn't feel settled back in our room. I honestly wanted to checkout and go home as felt very shaken. I had a very disturbed sleep that night and couldn't wait to checkout in the morning. Upon checkout I mentioned to front desk who were not aware of any problems so not sure if hotel management are truly aware. I realise that ongoing work and cold temperatures may drive rodents inside however we would expect pest control to be on top of this in such a high esteemed hotel. Also worth noting that whilst renovations are ongoing there are only 2 operational lifts that are being used by guests, staff and workmen so the wait for lifts is long. The lifts are also tiny with not much room if you have luggage. We encountered a journey from ground floor down to floor -4 which then stopped at every floor up-to the 5th floor which couldn't accommodate whoever wanted in as it was full of people .

Amazing and comfortable experience!
The rooms are very spacious, the exterior is brilliantly designed like a castle. However it is very modern inside, there are renovation going on at the moment but apart from that this has been a top experience! Special thank you to Iryna she was courteous, polite and friendly making our time in the executive lounge and restaurant great! In total I rate it 4.7 . Thank you Hilton.

Great hotel
Had the best experience. Room was so lovely, hotel so lovely. Lou and David were great. Mr Monday of concierge was so awesome too. Highly recommend it and food delicious too, the porridge was so tasty. Despite ongoing works at the hotel it didn’t bother as at all

Great location
Hotel is undergoing renovations but as we were there in the first week of January no construction was happening, so no noise or inconvenience. Small issue with our room during our stay but Abby was awesome in rectifying it. Perfectly located, close to attractions, train and restaurants.
