    A 5-Star Hotel… in Theory

Review of Iberostar Selection Anthelia On the surface, everything seems fine at this hotel—but in reality, several details fall short of the 5-star experience it promises. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬: The hotel is well-located and overall quite comfortable. That’s its biggest advantage. The setting is convenient, and it has the potential to be a great stay. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 & 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: The rooms, however, are very small and in urgent need of refurbishment. Carpets in the corridors are stained and worn—far from the standards one would expect at a 5-star property. Room cleaning was inconsistent throughout our 9-day stay. Sometimes it happened in the morning, other times late in the afternoon, and the floors were never thoroughly cleaned. The balcony floor wasn’t washed once. We were traveling with a small child, and eventually I had to personally ask the housekeeping staff to clean it—something that really shouldn't be necessary in a hotel of this caliber. 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: One of the most puzzling aspects was the requirement to give your room number before entering the restaurant for dinner. It felt more like checking in at a club than dining at a hotel. What's worse is that this system is open to errors. Anyone can give a wrong room number or simply be misunderstood. That’s exactly what happened to us—upon check-out, we were presented with a bill for dinners and champagne we never ordered. I had to explain the situation in front of a crowd at reception, which was awkward and unpleasant. Breakfasts were repetitive with a limited selection of hot dishes. Dinner was much better in comparison. 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞: While most of the staff were polite and professional, we did encounter a few rude waiters during the evening shows, which left a sour impression. 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Another inconsistency was the dinner dress code. Men were required to wear closed-toe shoes, while women could dine in sandals. This seemed arbitrary and unfair—either have a consistent dress code for everyone, or relax the policy altogether. The enforcement felt more like being at a camp with strict rules than enjoying a holiday. 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: While the hotel has potential and some strong points—particularly the location and general comfort—there are too many issues, both in terms of service and upkeep, for it to truly justify its 5-star rating. Hopefully, with some attention to detail and better management, it can live up to the expectations it sets.

    Great family holiday

Lovely hotel and great facilities. Big fan of the heated pool! The staff couldn’t do enough for us whether it be in the restaurant, the cleaners, entertainment staff or by the pool. They were all so hard working. Mirian in the pool bar was a real character and super friendly! A great holiday.

    Young family experience April 2025

I chose this hotel predominantly based on the reviews on tripadvisor, so I want to give our honest experience to help others. Firstly, when we arrived we were given complimentary drinks and cold flannels and our bags were taken to our room. 5 star service. However the rooms are not 5 stars we were in the daphne area of the hotel - our air con didn't work, shower flooded and we had insects in our room. All of these issues were fixed promptly when raised with reception. The staff are, however, 5 stars and are what made our holiday - we couldn't fault the staff everyone was friendly and exceptionally helpful and attentive. We stayed during the strikes, and you wouldn't know the hotel was running on minimum staff as they really are amazing and are worth their weight in gold. An example of how great staff were: Our little boy was sick the first night and the cleaners came in the middle of the night and stripped our bed like ninja angels whilst my little boy was sleeping. The food in the buffet is in my husbands words exceptional and there is a really good variety. Freshly cooked steak to your liking on offer every day for example. Some things for hotel to consider to improve: Kids club could be a bit wild at times. Maybe they needed grouping by age, some of the older children were kicking hard footballs about in a fairly small place, and a couple little ones were hurt for example Update the bedrooms- more storage space etc Remove the carpet in the hallways and redecorate (wallpaper hanging off walls currently). Invest in a play area with slides/swings etc my little boy was 3 so was too young for kids club and wasn't massively into the pool so would have been great to have an area for him to blow of steam. Overall- pools are beautiful and clean, food is delicious, a variety of restaurants (not in the ai package), staff are wonderful, hotel is clean and grounds well maintained. Just a few areas the hotel could improve to take it above and beyond.

    Great experience for families

We had a truly fantastic stay at this beautiful hotel. The variety of spaces to relax and explore was impressive, and there were so many great activities to keep the kids entertained throughout the day. The food was consistently excellent—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The whole experience felt special from start to finish. A heartfelt thank you to Mirian, who went above and beyond to make our stay even more memorable with her kindness, attentiveness, and genuine warmth. We can’t wait to come back!
