Not close to 5-star
This may be a 5-star hotel by Dominican standards, but in the U.S. it would maybe rate 2-star. The staff was great for the most part but that's about where it ended for me. The food was mediocre at best. Most meat at the buffet was severely overcooked, I assume to avoid getting people sick. The food labels at the buffet were worthless for the most part. Also, the Higuey buffet is open air, and birds are allowed to fly all over the place. Landing on tables and even on the buffet to pirate food. It was disgusting. The Higuey did prepare fresh omelets for you at breakfast, so I knew no bird had crapped on it. You also had to inspect the plates at the Higuey as many of the "clean" ones were not clean. I ordered spaghetti and meat balls at the Italian place, and it tasted like it came out of a can. The French restaurant was ok, but not "gourmet" by any means. They had a grill at the La Marimba that made pretty good food. The Asian restaurant was probably the best quality, so we ate there multiple times. They allow smoking in the pool and beach areas so we had to smell secondhand smoke much of the time unless we could find just the right location. The room was decent but the bed was hard. Air conditioning worked well. My wife had a session at the spa and she liked it. Bottom line is, if you are accustomed to 5-star hotels in the US, don't expect anywhere near the same quality here.

Vacation 25
Iberostar dominican: we traveled as a family to this resort for 6 nights and we had incredible service. Thanks for the great care to the concierge staff - Daliana, Cleiver and Manuel. Food was really good and with multiple options The beach was great, with little to none algae

Wonderful
My wife and I had the absolute best time on our honeymoon. Great people, great atmosphere, delicious food, and refreshing drinks. Huge thanks to our concierge Geordys Cabrera for making sure we had everything we needed during our stay. 10/10 recommend and definitely will be visiting again.
