Exceptional service from the staff!
Genel and Tanya in the prestige lounge greeted us on our first day back and made us truly feel welcomed and appreciated during our stay. They were accommodating with booking restaurants and massage and kept us up with daily activities. They were exceptional. Dovia, along with her team, was also exceptional in the restaurants. She was accomodating and made sure we enjoyed our meals, especially during the 40th birthday celebration and also whenever we dined at the surf and turf. Her professionalism and the care she provided to the guest should be commended. Our favorite place to visit and we're looking forward to our next trip in 2025.

Above our expectations
Family trip from 1-7 January. We have good experience of all-inclusives - having stayed there for over 20 years. Tried various packages and locations. Have developed rigorous criteria. I have to say that the Joia Rose Hall ticked all the boxes and exceeded our expectations, not least because of the exceptional quality of the food served. We were on the adults-only side: traffic was proportionate to the site, you didn't feel oppressed, there was no need to run at 5am to reserve a chair by the sea, there was plenty. Very pleasant, friendly and attentive staff. Impeccable service everywhere, from reception to room service, maintenance and entertainment. Magnificent rooms, spacious, clean and regularly serviced (2x a day) for sheets/towels. By the way, as Iberostar is an eco-responsible company, it would be nice to offer the option of indicating a less frequent change of towels and sheets... to save energy, water and soap! We had booked a room with a view of the swimming pool, but from the 2nd floor you also have a partial sea view, and the 3rd and 4th floors are even better! So ask for a higher level for a better view. No nedd to pay extra for an ocean view. Large private balcony - you can relax in your pyjamas in the morning! As for the restaurants: the French restaurant (queue de langouste...), the steakhouse (memorable ribs), and the Italian (everything must be rated 5 stars) really stand out. The Japanese restaurant with the chef in front of you is OK - we've had better - the Jamaican is very good at lunchtime - great variety of dishes that change every day. In the evening, however, the dishes were overcooked, dry, and the lobster tail had been reheated I don't know how many times. That was our only downside of the week. We'd been to see 1-2 menus on the hotel-family side and it's more ‘American’ - pizza, chips, etc. We were not tempted... we prefer fishes, fresh food, fruits, healthy diet. and we had plenty. Apparently the Greek is good... As with all all-inclusives, the alcohol is decent... weekday wine.... but you can buy more upmarket stuff if you need to. The morning buffet is very, very varied, with gluten-free options, and the products are very fresh. Overall, great beach for walking, superb sea... albeit with a bit of seaweed at the bottom. Iberostar should hire ‘plastic squads’ ... to collect the plastic debris washed up by the sea. There's a lot of it and it makes us aware that we have to do everything we can to prevent plastic ending up in the ocean. There are some itinerant sellers but they are not insistent. Marijuana vendors too.... you can sometimes smell it as you walk around... many tourists use it. But it's not very disturbing and doesn't happen every day. In short, a memorable stay that exceeded our expectations. Thank you to the entire Joia team.

Amazing winter getaway
My husband and I just returned from a very enjoyable week at the Joia. The resort is beautiful and the quality of the food is outstanding! The staff our extremely friendly and eager to serve. The nightly entertainment is excellent and of a highly professional quality. A special shout out to the following staff for going above and beyond: Alrick, Ace, Angel, Cassandra, Natasha, Devon, Jessica and Shalisa. Thank you so much for all you did in making our vacation so wonderful. Paul and Alison from Toronto

not quite grand nor joia-ous
Reviewed this resort about five years ago and gave it 5 stars then Recently returned , I am so disappointed to now rate it as 3.5 stars :( The resort is very pretty the buildings are looking tired and require maintenance There were multiple electrical issues with our room. We asked for a quiet room higher floor and that is what we got! Rooms and bathrooms are large, great balconies with sofa and swing. Robes, slippers and many towels, all great. Twice daily housekeeping with turn down service. DO close your 2nd door between the bathroom and bedroom, housekeeping tend to chat quite loudly in the halls in the mornings. It's a pretty beach when cleaned of seaweed ,with many beach loungers available, but NOT a beach for swimming. There are kayaks and paddleboards and hobiecats available-things to do ON the water because you don't really want to be IN the water. The seaweed has taken over the floor of the oceon almost everywhere, its slimy and unpleasant. On a couple days when the water was rough, despite their good efforts to clean the seawood off the beach edge in the morning, it reappeared and was not pleasant. The gym had great equipment and a # of interesting classes but 7 of 8 treadmills were out of service for days!? The seats in the womens toilets were broken and there was mold in the ceiling tiles of one of the gym rooms. Nightly entertainment honoured the local culture and community. Food was their strong point and overall was very good, especially the breakfast buffet and teppanyaki japanese restaurant. Good variety at the Jamaican beachside lunch buffet. Adequate options for places to eat and a pleasure to not have to make reservations for the ala carte restaurants any more!! (except the Japanese) Service at the resort was hit and miss, my drink orders were forgotten repeatedly and I rarely order a drink. In one restaurant we waited 45 min for our main, the steak came cold and the two lobster tails: one was hot and one was cold...I still can't explain that. At another, our food came flying out, we had 3 courses in less than 30 minutes. But at many times, service was very good and staff were friendly. Drinks: The liquor feels watered down at the beach bar but were very good at the lobby bar. Staff: the procedures are confusing: You check in, bellman shows you the room, then the butler shows up and gives you more orientation and says call me for anything, but its not clear for what. (In past they'd help you with dinner reservations but don't do that now) Then you're told to meet with the concierge who makes the one dinner reservation you need, then tries to talk you into a breakfast meeting so they can upsell you on I don't know what, dangling unknown spa gifts? They were quite pushy and did not accept our no thank you easily. There seemed to be many staff standing around doing nothing, Some staff seemed genuinely pleasant and kind, while with others it felt contrived and intended to garner tips. The pleasure of an all-inclusive is the lack of need to carry money or worry about tipping..however we felt very pressured to tip at times. Is the management not paying their staff adequately? that's how it was feeling to us. The Butler service for us added little beyond an obligation for more tipping. I was told to expect to pay, via tips, an additional $20 -30 a day for the butler service ??? The butlers change- from am to pm and from day to day. So you had to try and keep track of all of them, who did what and who and how to tip? This is TOO MUCH WORK for a holiday. The butlers now require you to give them your what's-app info for contacting them. but they all use the same chat so not sure why you need to get multiple texts daily as to who your am or pm butler is for the day. The 720 am morning butler's whats-app message in particular was unnecessary and was just an unwanted intrusion that woke us up repeatedly when teh whatsapp notification rang! As for tasks: we were told at checkOUT that you should have called the butler for everything: restocking, housekeeping, maintenance issues...I take issue in having to call a butler to restock the fridge, because the staff didn't replace whatever had been consumed from the minibar (eg a can of coke) or housekeeping didn't replace the towels...(that was quite hit and miss)..should that not be part of your core hotel services? not a customized "luxury' item for which you have essentially a 20-30$ daily surcharge! What I did expect was , as in past, on checkin, if we asked for extra coffee or wanted something specific in the minibar, that the butler ensure the room had it...while he was charming and heard the request it wasnt acted upon. So what was the point of the butler exactly? The app is a great idea and provided helpful info and access to schedules. It does needs work. Info was missing or incorrect so despite the app i still had to ask someone where to find things. eg. schedule said zumba on the beach, it was actually at the gym but by the time someone helped us figure that out, we missed it. Despite the above, KUDOS to Verona at the front desk who was helpful, informed and we thought quite outstanding!! Also to Rushane one of our butlers who was helpful, kind and absolutely lovely.!! My last comment: this was our 3rd iberostar grande vacation - we did NOT feel like valued clients. Despite multiple reminders, not a soul at the hotel noted we were returning clients . We weren't looking for freebies, just some sign of acknowledgement as we had previously received on our 2nd visit. Overall, our impression is that this rebranding to JOIA has certainly brought the resort down a few notches. It is starting to look tired. There are service and maintenance issues. The fact that staff seem desperate for tips, the concierge tries to guilt the client into hearing their presentation, and Iberostar no longer seems to value repeat business...certainly soured what would have been a 5star holiday.
