    GO ELSEWHERE

Before arriving I read a mix of bad and good reviews, but boy did I wish I listened to the bad reviews. I am writing this review as honestly as I can, so to everyone thinking of booking this resort PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW. I will start by saying we had booked a family concierge master suite swim up and we’re in building 4, inner circle (no sun after 3pm). Our concierge was named Yefry. Pros: The resort is beautiful. Rooms are spacious, clean (the couches could use a good clean as they are stained), and the grounds are well maintained. Drinks are good. Cons/Complaints: 1. A couple of days before arriving, I emailed TWO separate emails from the hotel requesting that my family, along with another family with the same room category could be placed next to us OR at least in the same building/swim up pool, as we have a 9 month old baby and would have loved them to be close to us to help us. Upon arriving, this was not accommodated at all. In fact, in order to even be in the same building as us (on the opposite side, with a separate swim up pool) they had to downgrade their room - this was not ideal and we weren’t thrilled about this. 2. Concierge services - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. For some reason, I expected way more out of this service. The concierge communicates with you through WhatsApp and every morning would send us the daily activities for the day (this can also be found on the app). Other than that, they book your a la carte reservations. On the day we were checking out, we did not hear from our concierge at all. I had to call in myself to request a later checkout as my baby was napping (they let me stay an extra hour) and had to call for someone to come and pick up our luggages - something I would expect the concierge to do. Our concierge was Yefry, and while he was nice, I wouldn’t rant and rave about the service we received, especially since he ghosted us on the last day. 2. FOOD - If you’re thinking of coming here and having great food and meals, please go elsewhere. The food here is probably the same (if not worse) as the food in Cuba. No variety, poor quality and tasteless. Let me go into depth a little…. The first night we had a 6:30 reservation at Mangu. The service was TERRIBLE. It took them over 30 minutes to even come to the table to take our order. The food options were very limited. Karnica (steakhouse) was okay, make sure you ask for medium well or the meat will still be alive in your plate. Don’t waste your time with Machu - it’s all ceviche (and not good). Sports bar was ok, typical mediocre pub food. The buffet. A typical buffet - pasta station, grill station (meat and fish), salad bar, soups, etc. None of the food was anything to rave about, however on our second last day we went to the buffet for lunch and noticed it was closed for a private event… I’ll get into that a little later. Tori - We were looking forward to this Asian restaurant the most as it is a hibachi and sit down. We managed to get a reservation for 7:30 for the sit down part. Whatever you do, do NOT order the almond chicken. It was smothered in a vinegary orange sauce that was inedible. The stir fried rice with chicken was the best thing on the menu. We really wanted to try the hibachi, but when we mentioned it to our concierge, the only time they had available was 9:30 pm. First off, I have a 9 month old baby. Secondly, this is a family resort with a lot of children, and I don’t think any children would be able to wait until 9:30 to have dinner! So on that note, we couldn’t get into the hibachi, even with a concierge. NOW the reason why the buffet was closed is because of Yeshiva week - they make the kitchen Kosher as there are groups of Jewish people arriving. Not only was the buffet closed, so was the sports bar and beach restaurant. They made a small little buffet on the outside of the main one for the rest of the guests. This is RIDICULOUS and the hotel should have notified guests PRIOR to booking. I will never book at any Melia again after this experience. Please don’t waste your money and book elsewhere.

    Absolutely amazing experience!

My wife and 2 adult children have gone on many vacations over the years and stayed at many resorts and we all agree that the Paradisus Grand Cana was the best resort we have ever stayed at. Everything was top quality. Suites were massive and impressively clean and modern, food was delicious and all the alcohol was top shelf. Service everywhere, from the bars to the restaurants to the pools, the beach and staff were terrific. We chose to upgrade to a Family Concierge suite and as such got assigned a personal Concierge as part of that package. Ours was named Raul. Raul was very helpful getting us whatever we needed. Dinners, activities (e.g. golf tee time), special room requests, etc. Our daughter had a birthday during our trip and he even coordinated an amazing custom made cake that they delivered at dinner the night of her birthday! As for the property, not only was it new and luxurious, but it was massive and sprawling. Sooo many pool options, cabanas to sit in, private beach area, tons of bars, water park beyond the main area (still on property). The spa was also great if you like to steam, sauna or get a massage. We never felt like it was crammed or it was over crowded. I can’t say enough about this stay. Thank you Raul and the entire Paradisus Grand Cana team.

Wonderful trip and great conceirge in Raul ….just work on the Buffett

Family trip to this resort. Upon arrival and being taken to our room our kids response was “wow”. We loved the swim up room and the conceirge service. This was probably top of the list of rooms I’ve had. Raul was wonderful. He checked in like clockwork and provided anything we needed. We had an early morning excursion and he made sure to have a full spread of breakfast sent to our room before we left for the day. We were able to get the reservations we wanted for the restaurants. I would ask for Raul again and suggest others do as well if given the option. Service overall was very good at the hotel. I did have issues getting drink service at the beach but my wife didn’t when she was there. She did feel you got better and more attentive service if you spoke Spanish. I do not speak Spanish but she does. Kids loved the kids club and the water park. I do wish the water park and drink service for adults. We went to moon palace in Cancun last year and there water park had drinks service which made staying there all day worth it. Kids had a ball regardless. As for the food, I loved the tepanyaki and robayaki. The Asian restaurant was the best. The steakhouse was good. I didn’t love my steak but it purely a personal taste as it had a smoky flavor I was unfamiliar with but it was prepared correctly. Burgers for lunch are good. Most of the good I had was well seasoned. The most disappointing thing was the buffet. The first night they had tons of seafood which was all good. After that the buffet was not good. I feel like the resort needs to put more effort into the food at the buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner. For breakfast the omletes are overcooked and the pancakes are either stiff or hard like they are microwaved. The dinner was ok but very repetitive. Their is a need for more variety in offerings. I’ve been to other resorts like excellence, grand at the moon palace and dreams and the buffets were all better. I will say the pastries were good at the resort. I wish the resort had more nighttime entertainment ad shows but that’s a preference. It’s smaller so they don’t have the larger spaces that a bigger resort has. We enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. The hotel grounds are immaculate. . Everything looks relatively new. We did do the “circle club” presentation. They were not pushy. What they present does sound attractive but I’m just not a person who makes a big commitment on the spot. The fact they weren’t pushy was huge for me. They made their pitch and left it there. All in all our kids had a great time. The only real criticism is the buffet and limited shows at night. It’s a smaller resort so it’s for people who truly just want time to relax and recharge. Raul was wonderful and helped make our trip a success

Not Truly All-Inclusive – Disappointing Experience

The resort itself is beautiful, but my experience was disappointing overall. Despite being advertised as all-inclusive, it felt far from it. Practically every amenity came with an upcharge or required an upgrade. The biggest frustration was the dining situation—getting into any of the restaurants was impossible without a reservation, which defeats the convenience you expect from an all-inclusive stay. Plan on eating lots of meals at the buffet because that will be your only option most of the time. If you’re looking for a truly all-inclusive resort, I recommend continuing your search elsewhere. This one was not as advertised and did not meet my expectations.
