Most depressive, boring and unfriendly resort in Riviera Maya
Most depressive, boring and unfriendly resort in Riviera Maya. First of all – there is a hidden fee not mentioned by Expedia. We arrived at 3PM after an overnight 12hr flight starving and tired and just wanted to eat and sleep. Trip was paid in full. But we were denied admission until we paid the “sanitary fee”(about $2 per night per room). I asked them if we can do it later after we get some rest, but we were told “NO”. It’s outrageous and not acceptable! Then we tried to get some food – nothing was available. Lunch ends at 3PM and after that time only “snack” food is available. “Snack food” means junk garbage food like hot dogs, french fries, burgers. We don’t eat junk food, I asked for some fruits at least – none was available. So, we had to wait till 6PM. Just to finish about food – never seen any resort with such poor service and food choices. There is one buffet "Yucatan". It serves mostly junk food. Nothing else.Next day we tried this buffet again – still no healthy choices were available. We switched to Riviera and Sunset buffets (sister’s resorts)– and never looked back: more food to choose from, more fruits and vegetables. Service was poor everywhere. We never tried an a-la-carte restaurant, because there was no option to reserve time and table, people were standing in line to get in like in supermarkets. To stand in line for food? We found that very humiliating. We don’t drink alcohol, so can’t comment on bars. Room – very strange design with open bathroom, so you may feel very uncomfortable if you’re staying with a friend or relative.Spacious, but so boring, so primitive – suitable for a 3 stars hotel. Sinks were clogged, conditioner broken, furniture worn out. Needs renovation. One + it was quiet. Territory –nothing to see, nothing to do. Never seen such boring landscaping - huge territory, but so uninteresting. If not animals roaming freely here it would be dead boring. Advertised “live violin concert” and such at 8 PM never happened. So, it was dark after 6PM and nothing to do at all. Didn’t have a chance to see any show, because they start at 10 PM when most people are sleeping. Beach – I would say there is no beach, just a tiny rocky line with a few chairs . Most people go to the sister’s resort beach– slightly better. So, any other resort would be better. But if you have no other choices – pick Riviera or Sunset princess, not Platinum Yucatan.

Great Cou[;es Getaway, Great Service!
Yucatan Princess adults only is a very nice 5 star resort. Restaurants are very high end and can visit all 4 plus a nice buffet restaurant. There is also a nice beach bar and fast food hut also. There are areas that are more quiet sections with swim out first floor options or more party rooms overlooking the main pool bar and activities areas with swim out first floor choices too. The beach is small and it is rocky when you enter the ocean but if you go south down the beach there is nice areas to go out into the water with sand, in front of the main Princess Hotels, Riviera and Sunset Sections. Princess also has an excellent Families Section that I looked at with Family pool and playground for young kids. Sunset and Riviera are good for older kids and families. So many choices for Restaurants throughout the Princess resorts, Sports Bar and Disco. I especially liked that there was Shuttles to Playa Del Carmen running back and forth throughout the day for $5 American each way. Only hotel we have visited in Mexico that quickly responded to any concerns eg. our safe battery went dead and we couldn,t open it. In 20 minutes security was fixing it.

PROS and CONS for our 1 week stay
PROS and CONS for our 1 week stay Visited in September 2024 with my husband. PROS -Adult only hotel but you can eat in the 2 sister hotels located a short walk from this hotel. -With your Platinum Yucatan bracelet, you have full access to the Grand Sunset Princess and Grand Riviera Princess resorts next door. -Peaceful area, lots of wildlife wandering around the hotel complex. -Both the main pools have swim up bars. -Food was great. All 4 restaurants plus the buffet were all very good. -Entertainment team was great. -The rooms were spacious and bed was huge. -The walk-in double shower was great. -The fridge had soft drinks and beer and was replenished daily.. -All staff extremely friendly and helpful, everyone looks like they love working there. -The hotel is gated with security at the gate and a big wall round it - pretty much like every other hotel in the area. -A hotel shuttle is available to take you into Playa del Carmen CONS -The beach/pool towel exchange is cumbersome and inconvenient and needs an overhaul. -The room was alright, but the AC was blowing out some pretty nasty smells. That’s why we always bring Travel Air Filters AC vent cover to clean up the air. It really helped a lot! -They have improved the beach since the last time I was there, its wider now, but the ocean is still rocky on the Platinum end. The PROS outweighed the CONS. Overall, my score reflects the room location and the price I paid. I would go back and get a cheaper room and enjoy the same benefits.

Come here !!!
I loved my stay at Platinum Yucatán! We had a great time the staff was amazing. This is my second trip and I’ll be coming back. Jorge of the front desk, Flavio who does bags and Christian of the bar were the stars of the show. My massage was amazing 10/10! I’m looking forward to my next trip and want to thank everyone!

DO NOT STAY HERE
Day 2 of our 8 night stay and I will start with DO NOT STAY HERE. We come to Mexico 2-3 times a year and try a new place for most of our trips. We booked this trip on a last minute whim (10 days advance) with our experience being most RM resorts are more or less similar. Regrets. I will say this is the cheapest resort we have been to, but still paying $800 a night we have significantly overpaid. This resort will try to find a buck at every avenue. Room service will only provide two bottles of water at a time. If you want 3+ at a time they will charge. They will charge for lost room keys. They provide two beach towels in the room and if misplaced, YOU GUESSED IT, they charge. Other reviews were also correct about the wifi. Our first try at ordering breakfast was interesting. There were 4 options, we both made a choice. We were informed that we were given the premium menu that we did not qualify for and our options were the two we didn't select. After speaking to reception they allowed us this one exception and promptly brought us a new menu. For the curious, the two and only options for breakfast are a pastry basket or cottage cheese. Stop drooling. In less than 48 hours we have had many minor scenarios that have built up of poor customer service, which I have truly never experienced in any hotel or resort in any country. I feel more like an inconvenient couch crasher than a paying guest. Vacations are expensive and time off is rare and precious. Please look elsewhere to enjoy yourselves.
