11 and counting
Traveled 4/5-4/12 for our 11th visit to the Riu Dunamar. It was love at first sight back in the spring of 2018 and the feeling still holds. We have made many friends that seem more like family (Freddy, Liborio, Crisanto, Max, Adriana and Eva). Everything remains top notch: Riu properties always go the extra mile and there are no high-pressure sale pitches to join a "travel club". Gabby, Carolina and Ricardo were exceptional at reception and guest services. Looking forward to next year already. The people here make the vacation special every time. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Our stay was beautiful except for our room that the toilet flooded and the water went all over and wet our stuff other than that all was beautiful

Great place to stay with the family!
This vacation was absolutely incredible. We enjoyed over 85-degree weather with clear skies for a full week, and the property itself was a dream come true. Our rooms were impeccably clean, and the furniture felt robust. In comparison to other places we've stayed, such as the Excellence collection—which is also tidy but has furnishings that resemble Ikea and lack durability—the Riu property stood out. We had wanted to experience Riu for years, often being drawn to other destinations, but we are thrilled we finally chose to stay at one of their locations and enjoy their exceptional hospitality. Every staff member was polite and accommodating, especially the friendly front desk team and event team. After a long flight with a toddler and a diabetic, we were eager to shower and rest upon arrival. However, since we upgraded to an oceanfront room, we had to wait about two hours for it to be ready. It was worth the wait and we were able to sit by the pool and grab some food, as the oceanfront rooms offered breathtaking views, complemented by swaying palm trees that looked like a postcard scene. Our room and concierge were fantastic, and the app made scheduling cleaning and placing orders easy, allowing us to enjoy our time without searching for staff. The food was plentiful and tasty. While it's not gourmet dining, it was good enough to enjoy daily, with a few surprises at the buffet. The steakhouse was the highlight, but be sure to request your steak to be cooked less than usual, as they tend to come out well-done and dry. And get on line early or it may fill up fast. The kids’ area was perfect for those who wanted to relax while the little ones had fun. The water slides were enjoyable for the entire family, though the funnel slide can be a bit tricky, so be cautious. Overall, the entire facility was remarkable. The only downside is that it's a getaway destination, ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle, but if you're looking to explore the town, keep in mind that everything is a 45-60 minute drive away. We're planning to check out another Riu in town that hosts the Riu Party events you are bussed to. The event staff were entertaining and on point, though some of the male dancers' provocativeness raised a few eyebrows. The nightly shows were fantastic, and the poolside games were a blast. This is definitely a family-friendly place to stay.

Good Experience for Family of Five
We had a good stay here. Family of five: two adults, a 7-year old, a 3-year old, and a 1-year old. There are multiple pools, some of which are reserved for adults only. However, there are two pools for all people. There is also a water park for bigger kids/adults, and a small water park for smaller kids (maybe 9 years old or less). Near the water park is a very small pool for toddlers, maybe 8-feet by 8-feet. My toddler liked that small pool. A kids club is at the location of the water park. We used that every day for an hour or two at a time and the kids did crafts, played games, etc. We would stay nearby, but other people left the kids there all day. The nightly entertainment began at 7pm ish. Usually, it started with trivia, then a short kids show, and then a more adult show. One night was the family friendly Riu Party which was a pretty cool spectacle (sort of EDM-ish). Food-wise, we mainly used the buffet. We found it up to par with most resorts. It is probably a tick below the very best resort buffet, but still good overall. They have a high end, self-serve coffee machine (lattes, etc.) in the buffet area. That was a nice surprise. We ate at the Chinese restaurant one night, which was a different buffet. We didn't eat at the other restaurants. Bar-wise, you can get a drink everywhere. They were nice about making virgin kids' drinks. The bars are very lively at night. There is a disco, but we didn't go there. Coffee-wise, you can get expresso drinks at the 24 hour sports bar whenever you want. Overall, we enjoyed it and would come back.
