May be better if you're younger
Would I go back there again?....sadly, probably not. With all the All Inclusive options out there, I would try elsewhere if I were to go back to Punta Cana. I have nothing 'Extraordinarily horrible' to review, but this was my experience at this resort. To give a little context, I'm 60. I've been to several RIU hotels over the past couple of decades. I'm a fan of the resort chain. The hotel property is large. Be prepared to walk a lot depending on where your room is located. When we arrived. and got into our room. We noticed the room was pretty warm, almost 80 degrees. We tried to turn the thermostat down, but nothing was working. We went down to the front desk, and let them know. We were told it would be fixed. We let them know again later that night that no one had been up to fix it. Again, in the morning, we went back the the front desk and told them again. They decided to put us in another room. So we packed all of our items up, as instructed, and they moved us(and our stuff) to a different room. Room is cooler.....good. Lots of places to sit around any of the 5 pools there. No lack of seating.... One of the issues I had was there was little to no wait staff for the pool areas. I've been to many RIU's, and there has always been people coming around asking if you want something to drink, etc. We only had that for a day or two, then nothing. If you wanted a drink you had to go to one of the pool bars and get it. Not tragic, just disappointing for what you pay at an All-Inclusive. Another issue was, if you wanted to know what was going on as far as pool activities, if you weren't in the main pool, you were in the dark. The entertainment staff didn't engage with too many people outside of the main pool area. The only time they came around and spoke to us is if they needed more people to play their games, like darts, etc. Other than that it was radio silent from them. (other RIU's, they come up just to say hi in the mornings, ask questions, or just chat). Very disappointing. Back to our replacement room. Our ceiling started to leak in front of the mini fridge area. Most likely from the air conditioner (as the vent was right there). We had a lot of drippage. We literally had to put the trash can under it with a towel to catch as much of it as possible. We let the front desk know 3 times over a day and a half before they came up and fixed it. Also, the shower ceiling in our bathroom looked moldy....couldn't tell if it was a bad paint job or mold. Either way, yuck. And a weird one....no wash clothes. Maybe that's a cultural thing? The food at the Buffet was fine. Neither great, nor terrible. The Buffet and restaurant staff were friendly and accommodating. I loved the idea of 'Adults only'. No worries about children crying, running around the pool areas, etc. The issue I had were the adults who were acting like children who had never been away from their home. (this is probably where my age is going to show) It's a hotel. Yelling in the hallways at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning..... Really? Playing your music on your device LOUDLY, in the buffet area at lunch and dinner, and in the hallways so everyone can hear. Again....Really? Maybe what's needed is a 'rule' about being quiet after a certain time at night?? Also, if you're not prepared to see a lot of naked lady booty.....this may not be the Resort for you. Women of all shapes and sizes strutting their stuff.

Don't book the Republica
I would go back to Punta Cana but not to the Republica. The Palace is well worth the additional price. The Republica has some serious repairs to do, most of all the elevators. The food was the worst except for the jerk chicken. Wait staff was not friendly and did not see many out by the pool that was open (2 were closed when we were there).

Party resort
Party party party Hotel .... I had a blast. The vibe of the crowd staying there is insane. So the 4 parties Jungle , pink , white and Neon are the highlights of RIU republica .The beach is a 10 , food is a 6 you can get by.I recommended going to Saona Island and Catalina island. The customer service in the front desk is awful unless you tip then it will all go quick and smooth. Customer service in the rest of the hotel is great. Super safe resort

Runs like a well-oiled machine!
The food was great! Jerk Chicken on the beach is a must. We took it to the buffet and got some rice & salad. So good! The staff are all great! Bartenders are fast, drinks are strong, dancers and entertainment were solid, lifeguard was on point, concierge staff were helpful and kind. The pools were clean, the food was delicious and abundant. Servers were attentive and considerate. My only issue was not having bottled water in our room at all times - especially since you can't drink the water there. Otherwise though, our room was clean, towels replenished regularly, working A/C in our room. Yea I'd for sure go back!
