Poor quality resort
Pros: beach is beautiful, restaurants are amazing (if you can get a reservation), rooms are mostly good. Cons: buffet food is not great, we ordered room service breakfast one day and it took nearly 3 hours and was cold, lots of construction (noisy), nearly every chair at the pool or beach is ‘reserved’ by 9am but most sit empty for most of the day or all day. We got the room with balcony jacuzzi but it is not well maintained at all - water comes out orange for the first minute or so, tub is dirty, jets are extremely filthy, don’t waste your money on these rooms. The hotel also has a sewer smell in most areas. Also, it may just be this area of Mexico, but most staff expected tips for everything and you were treated poorly if you didn’t tip. Also found the spa to be ridiculously overpriced - a couples massage was $450 usd / $650 cad Overall: would not recommend

Horrible Sewage Smell Issues
I have been to this property 5 times throughout the last 8-9 years and have to say, this property has gone to “crap” literally and will never go back. The property is getting run down and just a stench of sewage smell throughout the property is just unbearable. Luckily it only rained on the day before we left. It seems like when it rains, their sewages overflow or do not vent properly. That evening we got ready and went to dinner and the smell of sewage was present throughout the property. When we got back to our room, I literally threw up the cheesecake I just had for dinner, I wish I can describe the unbearable smell of sewage in our room. Our friends were staying next door to us and their room was fine. Our other friend down the hall a few rooms over also had no issue. I honestly have to safe it was a hazard to breath the air in the room the smell was so strong. We called and they sent maintenance over. I am not sure what they did but they said the drain in the shower got clogged (we were on third floor). They unclogged it and let the room air out some. They recommended that we go see if we can get another room if the smell doesn’t clear out. We waited some time and it got worse. I went to ask for a new room so we can safely stay out last night, no one was going to fall asleep with such stench nor were they probably going to wake up if they did fall asleep. I am try to let everyone know that the stench was probably the worse I have ever smelled. I never write reviews but this has to get out. When I went to the front and informed them about the issue the reception seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. He informed me that the property was sold out and no other rooms available so I would have to stay in the room. I kindly tried to tell him that the room was unbearable to even be in for 10 seconds and if he wished to go and see for himself. He rudely replied back that he can’t go and will not go and that I will have to stay in the room. We ended up crashing between our two friends rooms with what space they had available. I was travelling with my family and ended up staying on one of the benches outside. The next morning the stench was just as bad in the room. Between my wife and one of the cleaning ladies we got our stuff out of the room so we can check out. I don’t like to talk trash about resorts but reading other reviews it seems to be an ongoing issue here. Overall the food quality has decreased over the years as well. Sad to say I will not be going back.

Waste of time and money. DQ not worth it.
I would like to start by saying please read all the reviews to make the best decision to book your vacation. You’re spending the money that you have saved for an amazing experience on your vacation. I really don’t think you will find it at the Royalton Riviera. I will get into some details about our 10 day vacation that I book with reluctance. I should have went with my gut feeling and book at another resort but thought maybe just maybe the reviews were wrong and it was just people that could not be satisfied. Wrong!! We are a pretty easy going couple and really never complain about anything but for this vacation there is so much to complain about and I will get into it. We arrived at this hotel for a relaxing 10 day vacation and by day 5, I was ready to leave. The first thing your met with is smoke and mirrors about time shares and upselling of everything. This hotel wants to sell you things like vacation memberships, Bali beds, 500$ dinners and bottle service. Keeping in mind this is an “ All Inclusive “. Resort. 😏 We also paid 100$ US to book our room before we left to come to this resort. When I read all the bad reviews about this resort and all the upselling I went through the Royalton app and asked the resort about all the upselling and they even a sured me that they would not upsell anything. “ Lies “ upselling was the very first thing that we encountered. Some staff that work at this resort are the time share sellers posing as regular staff but to sell you a vacation membership is their focus. They will get you to trust them because they appear to be helping you with a request but they are gaining your trust so you will go to a presentation for 90 mins. Then there is the Bali bed hustle. For a fee you can buy the day at the Bali bed with service. “ Did I mention this was an All-Inclusive “? Oh and it was the Diamond Club too. Maybe when you book your vacation don’t spend the extra on Diamond Club because it’s the same service everywhere. This resort is very busy with tons of families enjoying themselves on their holidays so when I say busy it is VERY busy. The Diamond Club rooms are clean and somewhat outdated but they are clean. There is however some issues with building 6 and building 4. Building 6 has a structure that they have been working on since we arrived and it was very loud so we requested to be moved. We moved to building 4 where there was a horrific smell coming out of the shower drain every time you turned it on so you felt like you were showering in sewage. I felt like my body smelled of the sewage. They offered us the room directly above us so we thought let’s go have a look. Go in the room everything seemed fine, I go in the shower to run the water and “ Bang “ there it is. The smell 👃 coming from building 4 is horrible and it’s a real problem. So before you book your vacation make sure your read all the reviews to make the best decision possible. The food 🥘 at the Hotel was very good. We ate mostly at the buffet and room service as we wanted to relax for the remaining days. My husband had talked with the manager about the awful smell in our room but we could not be moved, they did offer us room fresher 👍😏. The Butlers are ok but they all work together with the up sellers letting them know if they might have the opportunity to sell you something. Are the butlers worth the extra cost? With the Diamond Club? Probably not. We did not spend any time at the pool because of the upsell of Bali beds plus by the time you go out there are no chairs available. Beach 🏖️ is good if you get up early enough to get lounger’s. So again please trust the reviews because they are bang on. Unfortunately we would not book at this resort again.
