Very professional and attentive staff. Beautiful location and all our wants were attended to. The room was clean and comfortable and the public areas were clean and well kept. Plenty of activity options available or just kick back and relax or both. Pura Vida!

Secrets Papagayo Costa Rica Review Our Disappointing Stay: A Summary • Duration: Almost done with our one-week stay. • Conclusion: Will not be back. Issues with the Resort: • Pools: ◦ Two extremely small pools. ◦ Virtually no chairs. ◦ Claim a chair by 7 am or forget getting a pool chair *Beach -Black sand, water murky 4 chairs at beach • Location: Not near anything, so there's nothing else to do here. 1.5 hours to tourist attractions • Stress Factor: Daily stress wondering if we would get a chair by the pool. • Expectation vs. Reality: Not what you want from a vacation. • Quality: ◦ The worst Secrets resort we've been to. ◦ Counting the days until we leave. Facilities and Maintenance: • Food: Below average. • Service: Subpar. • Housekeeping: ◦ Skipped our room many days. ◦ No turndown service. • Bathrooms: ◦ Caulk everywhere and leaking. ◦ Smell of mildew ◦ Mold in the shower. Accessibility: • Terrain: Extremely hilly, making it difficult to get around. ◦ Vans are available but run on the same sidewalks you walk on. ◦ Was pushed off the sidewalk into a gully a couple of times. Cost: • Warning: Costa Rica is extremely expensive. • Tours: All tours are $175 per person and up. Final Thoughts: If you want a stressful vacation, go here. Otherwise, go somewhere else. We are never coming back. ---

A grand time!
Staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Resort was very clean and the environment was overall very pleasant. Fernanda, Yesner, Randy, Giovanni, and Jorge are only some of those who helped make my visit to Secrets a great one! There was great entertainment during the day poolside and at night.

Staff were excellent, especially the van drivers. We enjoyed the brand new Toyota vans with AC. As others have mentioned this property is spread out and has some steep hills. The other point about walking is the “road” is wide enough for 1 van. Frequently there is no safe place to walk. As it was hot and humid we chose to call for a van. The resort app frequently doesn’t work so just call the operator and you will be connected to the right group, i.e. room service. We were in the 400 building, second floor, highest area of the resort. You are in a jungle environment, it’s wise to check your room, bed and closed shoes frequently for critters. We had a family of raccoons on the roof one night causing quite the ruckus. 4 of 5 restaurants require men to have slacks and closed toed shoes for indoor dining. At Aqua and two other restaurants you can sit outside if wearing shorts. Food was average, mixed drinks are the specialty of all the bars. Resort only serves Imperial canned beer. Two house red and white wines; they will sell you a bottle of many wines for a huge up-charge. The spa was clean and busy, book early and be prepared for a 5 star price. In our opinion this is now a 3-4 star resort; it’ old and for what’s charged it’s no longer a fair price.

Fabulous Time @ Secrets Papagayo
Beautiful property and 5 star customer service. Lots of hills so be prepared to get your cardio on. Shuttle service is available if you don't want to walk. Food was amazing. Staff was plentiful and very friendly. Cocktail service was also great. There are 2 pools; 1 with lots of activities and partying and 1 near the spa that is quiet and tranquil.
- AdvisoryStudent Groups (Spring Breakers) are not permitted at this hotel. A student group consist of those that travel without parent supervision or a responsible adult in each room. This could refer to but not limited to high school students or college students booking multiple rooms. The hotel reserves the right to deny lodging to any reservations of this type.
