We stayed here for the past two weeks in April, travelled from Ireland with my best friend. What a wonderful resort with the best staff I have ever met, not a bad word to say about anything and I have travelled extensively throughout the Caribbean, special shout out to our tui rep Roberto, amazing service by Armando at the seaside grill and to our mini bar man Ashton, that said all the staff are amazing, genuinely friendly and helpful, room service amazing after long days in the rainforest, the guides on the tours are exceptional also, I would not hesitate to stay here again, thank you so much to all for the holiday of a lifetime 🤩 😀

Apr 25, 2025Generally ok, but improvement is needed
I was sceptical about staying here, but overall the hotel is ok, but improvement is needed and soon. Key staff to note are: Joseu - Concierge, Jennifer - Portofino, Cristian - Seaside Grill and Thannya - pool, beach and coffee shop. These 4 employees provided exceptional service and made our stay a lot more enjoyable. Areas for improvement: pool and beach service; just shocking at the moment. We were made aware that there is a staff shortage but when Thannya was working she did her best to ensure that all guests were looked after. If she's not working, don't expect any decent form of pool service. It'll be quicker to get your drinks yourself. Sun umbrellas: not enough at the resort due to damage from the sudden gusts of wind. Again, we were told that more had been ordered. Main pool: this needs to be emptied and cleaned. There is green slime running the length of the wall from the bar and quite unpleasant if you accidentally touch the walls. Rules that the hotel stipulates and doesn't follow: ie reserving of lounge chairs. The hotel does nothing to stop this with large groups reserving their spot from 7am, who then disappear on a morning tour to not return until around midday. This is not acceptable and must stop. Inflatables aren't allowed in the pool, but again this hotel ignores it's own rule. The other crazy rule is long pants at dinner for gentlemen! Seriously? In a 36+ degree heat. Some gentlemen were wearing ripped jeans, flat caps, open shoes/flip flips, washed out dirty t-shirts and this was acceptable. Those who wore smart collared shirts, tailored shorts and closed shoes were turned away. Even several of the staff commented and agreed that this rule is bonkers!! Management really need to sort this hotel out and take onboard all the feedback given. At present, this hotel is not 5 star. It's just about 4 star. Would I return? Eventually yes, but not for a long time.

Would not stay again
They conduct a lot of weddings. When a wedding happens they shut down the spa area pool where you are relaxing in peace and quiet. You get moved and therefore feel like a second class citizen. Complaining to management doesn’t help. I was told the manager was going to come to my room to discuss and they never did. Only got a call from the concierge. On check out I mentioned this again and was told they’d follow it up and let me know. Nothing!

Rated 1 This place sucks Waiting 40mins for a shuttle back to our room. Bar staff who argue with you. Food is very standard but costs a fortune. Drinks are rubbish. Poor attitude - we will serve you when we’re ready, esp. Esteban. No one answers the phone. $46 per hour for extension!!

Fabulous Costa Rica @ Secrets
We are still @ Secrets Papagayo. We have been here for 11 days & are loving every minute! The hotel is set in lush grounds, the pools are never too busy with plenty of sun-beds. There are no queues @ the restaurants - our favourite is the Japanese! Sometimes the food @ the buffet can be mediocre. The lunch time barefoot grill is awesome; especially the pizzas! The drinks & cocktails are yummy, the staff are all exceptional. The evening entertainment is spectacular. Everyone works very hard to ensure you have a fabulous time! We booked tours with Frank the Tank on the internet, I can highly recommend the adrenaline combo & rain forest tours! Book now!
